Getting started on my.runsten.app

Runsten hosted reads your Volvo electric car for you: no server to run, nothing to update or back up. From the account to the first trips, it takes a few minutes.

Runsten is in development: my.runsten.app does not open yet. This is how it will work.

Your account

On my.runsten.app, select Sign in or create an account, and create one with your email address and a password of 12 characters or more. Confirm the address from the email you receive, then sign in.

Runsten then asks you to accept its terms of use and to read its privacy policy: Accept and continue. When one of them changes, it asks you again.

Your Volvo key

Volvo grants each application key a daily quota of calls. Runsten reads your car with a key of your own: its quota is yours alone, no other account spends it. You create it once, on Volvo's site for developers, which anyone with a Volvo ID can use:

1. Sign in with your Volvo ID on the Volvo Cars developer portal.
2. Under Your API applications, create an application: any name will do.
3. Do not publish it: it needs no redirect URI, no terms, no review.
4. Copy its primary VCC API key.
5. In Runsten, open Connection in the menu under your name, paste the key in Primary VCC API key, then Save the key.

The key is never shown again, only its last four characters. Its quota, 10,000 calls a day for each Volvo API, is about seven times what a car driven ten hours a day needs.

Your Volvo ID

Still on the Connection page, select Connect a Volvo ID, and log in on Volvo's page with the Volvo ID of your car, the one of the Volvo Cars app. Runsten lists its cars, and reads them from its next pass, a few minutes later.

Volvo's authorization lasts 6 months at most. When it ends, every page of the car says so, with Reconnect the Volvo ID: nothing already read is lost.

Free or Plus

• Free reads one car every hour, and shows the last 30 days; nothing older is deleted. If your Volvo ID has several cars, choose the one Free reads on the Offer page, in the menu under your name: the choice is made once.
• Plus reads up to 5 cars, every 10 minutes when parked and every minute while driving or charging, and shows the whole history, with the costs of the charges, the CSV files, Home Assistant through MQTT, and AI assistants.
• The beta: the first 50 accounts get Plus for 12 months, without a card. Then new accounts start in Free, and can try Plus for 14 days, once, from the Offer page.
